With the BUCS season beginning to reach its climax this week, Leeds Met sports teams competed in a number of crunch fixtures. A number of sides were involved in championship knockout fixtures as sides from around the country bid to make the BUCS championship finals in Sheffield next month. Women's hockey faced a tough home fixture against Gloucestershire, but battled to a 2-0 victory and will hope to retain the BUCS championships title they won last year. Following a long trip to the South coast, the men's football side recorded an emphatic 6-1 win over Brighton as they cruised into the quarter finals. James Vincent's men's badminton side were comfortable 8-0 winners over Scottish opponents Glasgow whilst the 2nd and 3rd teams also recorded victories over Durham and Hull respectively. Men's hockey travelled to Merseyside to take on Liverpool and won a thrilling encounter 6-4 to advance to the next stage of the knockout competition. There was a comfortable victory for the netball side 63-27 over Durham whilst Paul Fletcher's rugby league side beat Gloucestershire 68-16 in the Super 8s. Women's rugby union produced a comprehensive display to defeat Loughborough 80-0 but there was heartbreak for the men's side as they surrendered a lead to lose 27-24 against Loughborough. Women's squash defeated Newcastle 3-1 whilst men's table tennis narrowly overcame Liverpool 9-8. There were commanding 10-0 wins for men's and women's tennis over Warwick and St Andrews respectively.
