It is quite comfortable to hold on to. This one has a yasaka handle, that I cut from a shakehand blade that I convert into a chinese penhold. The stabing stroke seems to work good for punch returns. The round wood is a one ply poplar. there is a peg going through the round wood to the handle.

It looks like it would be hard to hold on to if you were doing something like a forehand loop, or a smash.
